Mulching

Mulching is the process of spreading mulch on the soil surface. Mulch is a natural or artificial layer of plant residue or other material spread on the soil surface. Mulch reduces erosion, conserves soil moisture, inhibits weed growth, and can provide the soil with organic matter as it breaks down. Mulching materials include straw, leaves, peat, moss, wood chips, bracts, etc. top dress around the base of the plant.
